Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water Review

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is a new release to their permanent line of products. There are a total of eight shades currently available.  Each jar contains 1 fl. oz  and retails for $42.00. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water can be found at Smashbox retailers nationwide.

What the brand says:

“What it is:
A sheer-to-medium BB water with a liquid-silk texture that delivers multiple benefits in just one drop.

What it is formulated to do:
– Oil-free formulation with built-in primer water technology that creates a liquid silk-consistency to glide easily onto your face and moves with the skin
– Features SPF 30 sun protection
– Comes in eight shades

This multitasking BB water with SPF 30 is an ultra-hydrating and oil-free formula that creates a sheer, radiant finish that lasts all day. It delivers a demi-matte complexion that’s never flat, creating a natural-looking canvas, and it minimizes the look of fine lines, pores, and blemishes. This unique BB water allows you to build coverage and does not cause any drying, cracking, or caking during wear.”

My take on Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is this: it’s pretty damn good! Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is one of the new “serum type” foundations. The formula is very thin and has a slightly water-like feel to it. You absolutely have to apply this product with your fingers. Initial application yields a beautiful, natural sheer to light coverage finish that catches the light in all the right places. You can build coverage and cover minor imperfections by layering the product.

The formula of Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is fabulous! It didn’t dry my skin out and actually wore very well even on the drier patches of my skin. My skin felt hydrated through out the day. On its own Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water wears for about 6-8 hours before you’ll notice some slight wear. You can extend wear time buy using this product with a primer and setting with a powder. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water works very well with their Photo Filter Powder Foundation.

While I find the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water fabulous, there are some downsides to it. At $42 for 1 fl. oz it is quite expensive. I also don’t like that the formula does not play well with brushes and sponges. I tried a few application options (other than fingers) and the results all pretty much stunk. If you’re not a fan of using your fingers to apply your base, Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is not for you.

If you’re in the market for a product that will enhance your own skin, yielding a beautiful, natural finish that looks like your skin? Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is for you! Have you tried this product yet? Are you a fan of serum foundations? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Too bad this foundation would probably not work for me, because it sounds like too much hassle to get good result.

  2. I do enjoy this foundation, but with my acne scars I prefer more coverage. However, I think it wears beautifully and my skin feels good with it on. When I get to a better skin place (less scars) I know it will be a go to!

  3. This sounds like a fancy version of the L’Oreal eau de teint released a few years ago! That is my favorite summer foundation and has to be applied with the fingers as well. The price tag is a bit too high for me on the smashbox one unfortunately

  4. This does seem a bit on the pricey side.

  5. I’m curious about it but I’d need a sample first. Not sure I’d get the coverage I need with it, but then I do well with the NARS Weightless All Day Foundation but it’s not really a water

  6. Definitely pricey but if it’s a love it’s a love!!!

  7. I want to try this! I am a foundation junkie and I do not have this one yet!

  8. Great review of this product, I was loving the sound of it until you’d said that it doesnt work well with brushes which is how I like to apply my base. Thanks for the heads up xxx

  9. I’m intrigued. I should check this out next time I hit Sephora

  10. I’m so intrigued by all these serum foundations that keep coming out, they sound like they are so comfy on the skin and I think my dry skin would love them!

  11. It sounds great but I’m afraid it would be too sheer for my old face.

  12. This really interests me. I don’t like thick foundations. I need light coverage that won’t slide around really and usually just use powder now. I might want to give this a go

  13. Ok so I totally need this. I was checking it out at Sephora the other day and playing with it, but I for sure NEED it now. I love a good serum foundation for sure. Adding to my list now.

  14. Serum foundation can be tricky to apply but once you get the hang of them the finish is worth the trouble.

  15. I love a light, natural finish. I’m also interested in trying their water primer.

  16. I am fairly certain I would love this!

  17. Sounds nice. It would have been better if you posted a swatch photo on your face tho.

  18. I have a sample of this to try and your post has just reminded me to dig it out and try it x

  19. I love serum-based and watery foundations and this looks nice and yellow-toned. But I’m not sure the coverage will be enough for my acne. I’ll have to try out a sample.

  20. I actually used a few similar foundations that are best applied with fingers, so I think I’d be okay with it.

  21. I have been dying to try this!

  22. I loved this stuff but like you, I had a hard time with application unless I blended it onto my face first.

  23. This does sound lovely as a light base option! I wonder how well it would last on oily skin!!

    Jess xo

  24. I love the sound of it, but I’m not user if it would fit my skin type though x
