Everyday Look – UDXGWEN

If you share similar traditions to mine, the holiday season is just about to wrap up with Three Kings Day tomorrow. I know that most of my makeup loving friends received (or could’nt wait and ran out and bought) the ultra fabulous Urban Decay UDXGWEN palette as a gift over the holiday season. It is so easy to get caught up in the hype of new beauty products but often let them sit because we don’t know how to use them. Fortunately the UDXGWEN palette isn’t makeup rocket science. The palette is pretty neutral friendly. While I am normally all about simple “everday” beauty, I do like glitz and glam up my everyday looks every once in a while. I’m not going to bore you with the basics. I created a face chart for my current basic everyday look. I am going to give you tips on how to take my everyday look into the glam zone. This amplified look is perfect for running errands, lunch with the girls, a day at the office or a trip to the mall or a romantic date.

Now that we have our basic everyday look to of the way let me give you some tips on how I turn this from boring everyday to “everyday glam”.

Add Some Super Shimmer/Glitter – I know, I know glitter isn’t technically for everyday but just the tiniest amount of a light neutral glitter liner or glitter based shadow can add a slight pop to a neutral eye. My favorite place to add this is to the inner corner of the eye. It brings just the right amount of light to the eye without looking too overdone. In the face chart the lid color I used is very shimmery but you can still add more.

Switch Up the Lip Products – Swapping out your “My Lips But Better” shades for a holiday inspired red, berry or  even a brown can amp up your everyday looks without being too overdone. I want to say that switching up your lips is the easiest way to play with your everyday looks.

Plum/Mauve Blush – I love plum and mauve blushes SO much! And the winter time is one of the best seasons to wear them. Just a little bit of plum/mauve blush on the apples of your cheeks give that pretty sugar plum fairy flush.

Smoke Out Your Liner – Adding smoky liner is another easy way to make your everyday beauty look a little extra special. And it’s easy! With a brush or even a cotton swab you are going to lightly smudge some eye shadow into your upper and lower lash lines.

You can use one or all of the tips above to transition your everyday beauty looks to one that is a bit more glam and a little less “natural”. Why not try to glam it up for yourself and ring in the new year feeling good on the outside.

Happy New Year!

NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner

NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner review everyday beauty blog

NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner is a “new” (at least according to their website) pencil eyeliner that claims “24 hour wear”. The line comes in seven shades ranging from basic black to some fashion colors like sky blue and teal. Each NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner contains .0 1 oz of product and retails for just $3.99. You can find NYC Cosmetics at your local drugstores, big box stores and online. NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliners are hard to find in store in any of the more colorful shades. I’ve only ever seen Black and Dark Brown.

The NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner in Dark Brown is an intensely pigmented, creamy, easy to blend, easy to apply, long wearing once it sets and waterproof .  Dark Brown is a smoky matte cool brown. I had zero issues applying Dark Brown to my waterline. It wore well through tearing thanks to  our especially windy weather as of late. There’s not really a ton to say about the NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner in Dark Brown other than it’s fabulous! Smoky brown perfection in pencil form. I grabbed Dark Brown because it reminded me of a recent fave that I raved about here. How does this drugstore liner compare to Lancome’s Liqui-Drama Eyeliner in Brûlée? Let’s find out.

So how does the NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner in Dark Brown compare to Lancome’s Drama Liqui-Pencil in Brûlée? VERY WELL! Believe it or not this is an ALMOST a complete dupe for Lancome’s Drama Liqui-Pencil in Brûlée. They differ in two key areas. Brûlée wears for a full 24 hours like the packaging claims, NYC’s Dark Brown does not. Dark Brown does wear extremely well for 12+ hours. Most of us don’t wear makeup for 24 hours (at least I hope not!) but you know how I am with marketing claims. NYC’s Dark Brown beats Lancome’s Drama Liqui-Pencil in Brûlée when it comes to application. I found Dark Brown to be much more creamier, it glided on smoothly leaving a nice dark line with a single swipe. In terms of color match, NYC’s Dark Brown is just slightly darker than Lancome’s Brûlée. Personally, I prefer the NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner in Dark Brown to Lancome’s Brûlée.

Color me shocked that this drugstore bad boy beat it’s higher end cousin. For just $3.99 NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner in Dark Brown is a beauty steal and a MUST have! Are you a fan of NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner? Have you tried any of the other shades in the line? Let me know in the comments section below.

Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliner

lancome drama liquid-pencil longer eyeliner review everyday beauty blog

Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliner are a new line of pencil liners that claims to be “liquid eyeliner in pencil form”. This newly released line boasts an impressive array of sixteen shades ranging from the safe neutrals to exciting, vivid shades. Each Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliner contains .042 oz and retails for $23.00. These eyeliners are part of their permanent collection and available exclusively at Sephora for now.

I have been on a MAJOR brown eyeliner kick as of late. One night when browsing the Sephora site I saw that Lancome had a new line of “liquid eyeliner pencils”.  I made it my mission to grab a few Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliners when they eventually made their way to store shelves. I picked up Brûlée, a very deep cool brown with a slight sheen and Baroque, a matte lavender. Baroque was NOT on my purchase list. I grabbed it by mistake as I really wanted Ampoule which is a rich pearlized purple, another colored eyeliner obsession of mine. I didn’t realize my error until I began to test my Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliner . I kept it to test because a good lavender eyeliner is very hard to find.

Let me get straight to the point: Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliner in Baroque and Brûlée are FABULOUS! In one case almost too fabulous but more on that later. They both wore for 24 hours with little fading. Actually only Brûlée faded a bit, Baroque wore strong. They were pigmented, creamy, easy to apply, easy to blend and once set water/smudge proof. I will say between the two Brûlée is definitely my favorite. I love everything about Brûlée: finish, longevity and pigmentation. Brûlée has rapidly replaced one of my September 2015 Favorites. That says a lot considering I have only had this product for about a week.

While I had an easy time removing Brûlée, Baroque was a pain to remove. It actually left a stain. My hand that I swatched Baroque on is still slightly stained and that’s after forty-eight hours of wear. Baroque’s wear time led me to use it as a lipliner/lip stain/cream eyeshadow. When I use it on my lips I just layer it over some lip balm. I have an all day lip color that is an alternative to the traditional nude lip that requires little touch up. As a cream shadow/base I use it over a primer to deter any staining on the lid. I get a strong lavender hue that wears until I remove it.

Color me beyond impressed with Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliner. I highly recommend Brûlée as it’s the perfect brown liner. Baroque is an interesting shade that has multiple uses but it might not be for everyone. I can’t wait to sample more from this line. I have my eye on Ampoule, Minuit, Parisian Night, Embrase and Paradis. Have you tried Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longer Eyeliner yet? Let me know in the comments below.

Heeeeeey! Long time no post right? I took an over extended break for personal reasons. Happy to report that I should be back and ready to lend my voice to all things beauty. It’s been an odd month weather wise here in Chicago because we haven’t really begun to transition to the fall yet. We actually still have some very summer like weather here so I haven’t had to break out my usual “transition to fall” beauty goodies, had a pumpkin spiced anything or put my crock pot stew recipes to the test yet. With our unusual weather I have found that my September 2015 Favorites really reflect what I have been using for most of the summer.

ebblog sept 2015 makeup faves

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Twice Baked – I’ve always been advocate of using “color” (meaning not black!) eyeliner. While Urban Decay’s line of pencil eyeliners boasts an impressive array of shades, it’s Twice Baked that’s been my jam! Twice Baked is the perfect shade of dark brown with just a hint of shimmer and slightly coppery micro glitter. I reeeeeeally wish this wasn’t a limited edition item that is no longer available but there are plenty of brown liners on the market at all price points.

Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Saddle – An oldie but goodie! Saddle is my everything: brows, liner, crease, sheer wash of smokey color on my eyes. It’s so important to have a good selection of “basic” shadows that can be used in a variety of ways. Saddle is just my makeup “bae”. I can’t live without it and it’s lasted me FOREVER.

INGLOT YSM Cream Foundation – When I came back from Mexico last month I had actually tanned quite a bit and I found myself needing a foundation that was just a little bit darker. Thankfully I had makeup ESP and brought this little powerhouse with me to Mexico. INGLOT’s YSM Cream Foundation is amazing! The coverage on it’s own is medium to full but what I have been doing with it is mixing it with other products to sheer it out some since I do not need that kind of coverage everyday. YSM wears for hours, looks like skin and just photographs beautifully! It’s also not as expensive as some of it’s higher end cousins.

MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight Palette – A MAC Palette full of best selling neutrals and a blackened purple? Toss in really cute packaging and how could this not be a favorite? I’m admittedly not one who buys into the MAC Limited Edition collections that are released weekly (or it seems that way!) but I actually stayed up all night to order this palette because I loved everything about the Stroke of Midnight palette. All of the shades in this palette are perfect: blend well, pigmented and long lasting. . If you missed out on the palette five of the six shades are permanent. Stroke of Midnight is the lone limited edition shade.

Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation – I use Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation on the days when I want to head out the door and I only have 5 minutes to get my face together OR to set my foundation/concealer. This powder when applied alone with a powder brush is enough to really just pull my face together. Over a foundation and concealer it works to set everything in place and to slightly color correct. Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation also adjusted to my recently tanned skin very well. For all my dry skinned ladies out there, this powder does NOT cling to your dry patches. There are a variety of ways to use the Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation (it comes with a double sided sponge, can be used wet or dry, etc) and several marketing claims I have yet to test so I may do a full review on this product in the future.

Tweetermen Slant Tweezers – Who doesn’t love a hot pink tweezer? Whenever I get asked: What is one beauty routine you do daily? My answer is ALWAYS: brows! Brows can seriously make or break your ENTIRE face. Yes, your brows are THAT serious! To keep your brows in tip top shape I recommend a great pair of tweezers and you can never go wrong with Tweezerman. Free sharpening for life? Yes please! I actually have two pairs so when I do send them away to get sharpened, I always have a spare at home with me.

ebblog sept 2015 hair favorites

Redken Color Extend Magentics Shampoo – I have a love/hate relationship with sulfate free shampoos. I love that they don’t dry my fragile tresses out but I hate that my hair never feels or looks clean after using them. That all changed this past summer when I purchased Redken’s Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo. This sulfate free, color safe shampoo just really, really works! It cleanses my hair, gives my hair body and doesn’t dry my hair out. I would use this shampoo even if I wasn’t coloring my hair that’s how good it is.

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment – I don’t know why but my hair cannot handle straight up oil of any kind. Believe me, I have tried them all. It’s almost like my hair needs that dose of silicone to make a difference and I am fine with that. Enter Simon & Tom Moroccan treatment which has seriously saved my ends as of late. Now, I do not use this serum all over my hair. I apply this serum on the ends of my hair before I go to sleep and when I get up in the morning my hair just looks and feel better.

Those were my favorite makeup and hair products for September 2015. What were you enjoying this month and made your September 2015 Favorites? let me know in the comments section below.

blackUp Cosmetics Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner

((Press Samples))

blackUp smoky kohl main

blackUp Cosmetics Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner contains .04 oz and each pencil retails for $18.50. The collection contains ten colors ranging from everyday neutrals to bright colors. These pencils are available in various finishes and blackUp claims their Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner is waterproof once it sets, they won’t tug when applying  and each shade can double as an eyeshadow. Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliners are available online at the blackUp website. I’m not sure if they have in store retail presence yet.

I have shades KS01 (black) and KS08 (teddy bear brown with barely there microglitter) from the blackUP Cosmetics Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner. I showcased both of these colors in my recent Girls Night Out Tutorial. Both shades are phenomenal! Pigmented, creamy, ridiculously long wearing, easy to work with and relatively waterproof/smudge proof. I get an INSANE amount of wear time with these. Like the 24 hour range and the color did not fade much at all. KS01 is matte deep black. I don’t have a liner as black and long lasting as this one. KS08 is your typical teddy bear brown shade but it’s intensely pigmented and long wearing, setting it apart from the MANY other shades of brown eyeliner I have.

Comparisons in the makeup world are inevitable. I’m sure you’re asking: How do these pencils compare to the Urban Decay pencils? The Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner are the same size as my much loved Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeliners and priced a little bit lower ($20 for UD vs $18.50 for blackUp) but where it really counts is quality. Which is better? Hands down, blackUp’s Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner wins. I’m a DIEHARD UD eyeliner pencil fan but even I can admit when it’s beat and the Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner from blackUP in KS01 and KS08 are easily better than its fan fave competition in comparable shades (Perversion and the plethora of browns in the UD line) in every sense: wear time, lasting power, price, color payoff and ease of application.

Are the Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner holy grail for me yet? No, I need to try more from the line to make sure the quality is line wide and not hit or miss. For now I am very pleased with these two very everyday appropriate colors. To score your own blackUP Waterproof Smoky Khol Eyeliner AND a 20% off discount use code LOVE15 at check out.
