Heeeeeey! Long time no post right? I took an over extended break for personal reasons. Happy to report that I should be back and ready to lend my voice to all things beauty. It’s been an odd month weather wise here in Chicago because we haven’t really begun to transition to the fall yet. We actually still have some very summer like weather here so I haven’t had to break out my usual “transition to fall” beauty goodies, had a pumpkin spiced anything or put my crock pot stew recipes to the test yet. With our unusual weather I have found that my September 2015 Favorites really reflect what I have been using for most of the summer.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Twice Baked – I’ve always been advocate of using “color” (meaning not black!) eyeliner. While Urban Decay’s line of pencil eyeliners boasts an impressive array of shades, it’s Twice Baked that’s been my jam! Twice Baked is the perfect shade of dark brown with just a hint of shimmer and slightly coppery micro glitter. I reeeeeeally wish this wasn’t a limited edition item that is no longer available but there are plenty of brown liners on the market at all price points.

Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Saddle – An oldie but goodie! Saddle is my everything: brows, liner, crease, sheer wash of smokey color on my eyes. It’s so important to have a good selection of “basic” shadows that can be used in a variety of ways. Saddle is just my makeup “bae”. I can’t live without it and it’s lasted me FOREVER.

INGLOT YSM Cream Foundation – When I came back from Mexico last month I had actually tanned quite a bit and I found myself needing a foundation that was just a little bit darker. Thankfully I had makeup ESP and brought this little powerhouse with me to Mexico. INGLOT’s YSM Cream Foundation is amazing! The coverage on it’s own is medium to full but what I have been doing with it is mixing it with other products to sheer it out some since I do not need that kind of coverage everyday. YSM wears for hours, looks like skin and just photographs beautifully! It’s also not as expensive as some of it’s higher end cousins.

MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight Palette – A MAC Palette full of best selling neutrals and a blackened purple? Toss in really cute packaging and how could this not be a favorite? I’m admittedly not one who buys into the MAC Limited Edition collections that are released weekly (or it seems that way!) but I actually stayed up all night to order this palette because I loved everything about the Stroke of Midnight palette. All of the shades in this palette are perfect: blend well, pigmented and long lasting. . If you missed out on the palette five of the six shades are permanent. Stroke of Midnight is the lone limited edition shade.

Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation – I use Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation on the days when I want to head out the door and I only have 5 minutes to get my face together OR to set my foundation/concealer. This powder when applied alone with a powder brush is enough to really just pull my face together. Over a foundation and concealer it works to set everything in place and to slightly color correct. Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation also adjusted to my recently tanned skin very well. For all my dry skinned ladies out there, this powder does NOT cling to your dry patches. There are a variety of ways to use the Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation (it comes with a double sided sponge, can be used wet or dry, etc) and several marketing claims I have yet to test so I may do a full review on this product in the future.

Tweetermen Slant Tweezers – Who doesn’t love a hot pink tweezer? Whenever I get asked: What is one beauty routine you do daily? My answer is ALWAYS: brows! Brows can seriously make or break your ENTIRE face. Yes, your brows are THAT serious! To keep your brows in tip top shape I recommend a great pair of tweezers and you can never go wrong with Tweezerman. Free sharpening for life? Yes please! I actually have two pairs so when I do send them away to get sharpened, I always have a spare at home with me.

ebblog sept 2015 hair favorites

Redken Color Extend Magentics Shampoo – I have a love/hate relationship with sulfate free shampoos. I love that they don’t dry my fragile tresses out but I hate that my hair never feels or looks clean after using them. That all changed this past summer when I purchased Redken’s Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo. This sulfate free, color safe shampoo just really, really works! It cleanses my hair, gives my hair body and doesn’t dry my hair out. I would use this shampoo even if I wasn’t coloring my hair that’s how good it is.

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment – I don’t know why but my hair cannot handle straight up oil of any kind. Believe me, I have tried them all. It’s almost like my hair needs that dose of silicone to make a difference and I am fine with that. Enter Simon & Tom Moroccan treatment which has seriously saved my ends as of late. Now, I do not use this serum all over my hair. I apply this serum on the ends of my hair before I go to sleep and when I get up in the morning my hair just looks and feel better.

Those were my favorite makeup and hair products for September 2015. What were you enjoying this month and made your September 2015 Favorites? let me know in the comments section below.

XOXO

Ashley

November 2014 Monthly Favorites

ebblog monthly faves

Hola! Can you believe it’s December already?!?! November went by so fast and it was a rather rough month for me due to health and some personal issues. I’m trying to get back to what passes for normal here and I am not going to lie, it’s been rough but I did have some monthly faves for November. Shopping from your collection is ALWAYS fun and I rediscovered some “new” favorites from my stash. ! Now onto my November 2014 faves….

ebblog nov 2014 faves

November 2014 Favorites

MAC Prep+Prime CC Colour Correcting SPF 30 (Adjust) – I have had this little goodie in my stash for around six months now. I stashed it away after testing it out and I broke it out after raiding my stash at the beginning of November 2014. MAC Prep+Prime CC Colour Correcting SPF 30 (Adjust) is an amazing primer but when worn alone it corrects minor flaws and gives your skin a healthy, radiant look. I am in love with this goodie from MAC.

MAC Prep+Prime CC Colour Correcting Loose (Adjust) – I bought this lose powder as a companion to the previously mentioned MAC Prep+Prime CC Colour Correcting SPF 30 (Adjust) and obviously both of these products work very well together. Alone or with other products MAC’s MAC Prep+Prime CC Colour Correcting Loose (Adjust) is just fabulous and imparts that perfect airbrush finish when paired with a standard foundation.

Make Up For Ever Artist Palette – I said #byefelicia to almost ALL my eyeshadows (and now they just sit n my beauty cabinet) and I have been in love with the new Make Up For Ever Artist Eyeshadows and this palette is has become my trusty standby for all my looks. This powerhouse palette can take me from day to night and everything in between. If you own one palette, the Make Up For Ever Artist Palette should be it!

Anastasia Brow Wiz – This will forever be in my favorites until something better comes along. Anastasia’s Brow Wiz is perfect for creating/filling in a natural brow or for creating much more dramatic brow looks. Brows frame your face and if you do one “cosmetics” related step in your everyday routine… Do your brows girl!

MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline – Another product I have had forever hiding in my beauty stash. I love Feline as it’s an intense black that can be layered for intensity or smudged out to soften the look of your liner. While I love Feline if you’re an eye rubber or suffer from watery eyes than I’d skip this and opt for a budge proof/waterproof option.

November 2014 has been a light makeup month for me and I found myself reaching for “basics” more than anything else to pair with a bolder lip. I’ve been on a MAC kick lately and I will say they do basics very well. What were some of your November 2014 favorites? What’s on your holiday wish list? Let me know in the comments section.

Fall 2014 Beauty Haul

ebblog fall haul 2014

The fall is my ABSOLUTE favorite time of year. There is nothing I dislike about the fall except maybe the rain but whatevs. I’ve been on a bit of a spending spree as of late so I figured I would share my beauty related purchases with everyone. I do want to say that Ulta Beauty has the best rewards program ever especially if you get salon services there (which I do!). I used my points to redeem to pay for some of the products below. Aaaaaaand now on to my Fall 2014 Haul!

Make Up Forever Artists Shadows and Artist Palette – Special shout out to Cosmetically-Challenged because she really made me excited for this new line of gel to powder shadows from Make Up Forever. You can create your own palette OR you can choose to purchase the Artist’s palette. I opted for both. You do get a discount when you create your own palette (two or three pan palette) making the shadows a bit more affordable.

T3 Single Pass Compact Iron – I need a new flat iron badly and I prefer a smaller, compact flat iron because my arms get tired really, really fast. I had been on the fence about this because it’s got just a single heat setting but it gets great reviews and I think it’s time to graduate from Chi to T3.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara – I bought the full size because I loved the sample I got in last month’s Ipsy bag.

MAC Strobe Cream – The best thing about free standing MAC Stores is they sell everything so I was able to get a travel size Strobe Cream for $10.

MAC Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner in Designer Purple – My obsession with purple is real this season!

MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow in Highly Charged – Moar purple!

Shea Moisture Super Fruit Complex Shampoo and Hair Masque (not pictured) – I have to thank Daydreaming Beauty for inspiring me to try this line out. Before vacation I went pretty blonde which ended up really drying my hair out. I recently went back to my natural hair color and I am hoping these products help infuse my hair with moisture.

Redken Wax Blast 10 – A recommendation from my stylist.

Too Faced Cat Eye Palette – I have been on a Too Faced high recently. Hopefully that keeps up with this incredibly cute palette!

Urban Decay Shadow Box – It was the Urban Decay Ammo Palette that really jump started my beauty obsession and this was more of a nostalgic purchase. Plus it’s pretty!

Essence All About Nude Eyeshadow – A curiosity purchase. I have seen a few good review on their new palettes. This was the one that spoke to me.

Essence Stay No Matter What Eyeshadow Pencil in Whipped White Frosting – I was craving frosting and this eyeshadow pencil is beyond pretty. I have high hopes for this!

Essence Crystal Liner in Sparkling Purple – I’m addicted to adding just a little bit of glitter to my outter v, to give it that little bit of pop.

Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Flash Dance – I had a $20 Nordstrom Note and I got this. It’s such a GORGEOUS color! Perfect for my toes on fall!

City Color Barely Exposed – Last but not least… I grabbed this at Five Below. I loved my last City Colors purchase so I thought I’d try this.

There you have it, my Fall 2014 haul. I am going to TRY and go on a no buy but I suspect that is going to get really, really hard for me given that Holiday 2014 is literally right around the corner. Have you been on a shipping kick lately? What are some of the new items you have picked up?

My Top 5 MAC Products

ebblog MAC Top 5 Logo

It’s undeniable that MAC “runs” the higher end consumer color cosmetics marketplace. Their stand alone stores and counters are always crawling with customers looking for the latest and greatest from MAC. They offer such a wide variety of products that it can often be intimidating for someone new to the brand. Just because it is from MAC does not mean that it is great. Here are my five top picks from MAC that I suggest every makeup fan have in their personal stash. And don’t worry none of them are limited edition items.

Top 5 MAC

MAC 217 Blending Brush $24.00 – Try as I have, nothing beats this brush for blending out your shadows. This brush is so impressive that I own FIVE of them. This oval shaped wonder consists of densely packed goat hair bristles that just blend and pick up shadows like a dream. The MAC 217 is also great for dusting on shadows when you don’t have time for a complete eye look and it’s a dream for contouring your nose.

MAC Fix+ $24.00 for 3.4 US fl oz – This blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, vitamins and minerals is a must for my skin. I love Fix+ and use it daily even when I am not wearing makeup. I don’t know what it is about the formula exactly but it is the only facial spray that really soothes my skin and makes it feel good. I use Fix+ after I tone my skin and before I apply moisturizer. It is also great as a mixing medium to increase the payoff and intensity of powder products. Fix+ can also be used to breathe new life into dried up cream products. And of course it can be used to set your make up.

MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pots $20.00 .17 US oz – Pro Longwear Paint Pots are a cream shadow/base product. They come in a wide variety of neutral colors and finishes.  Pro Longwear Paint Pots are great to use as a primer/colored base for stay all day eye shadow looks. They can also be worn alone for a sheer wash of color OR to color correct tired eyes using their flesh toned shades. You can find cheaper dupes at the drugstore BUT my preference is to splurge on at least one paint pot that closely resembles your skin tone for those days when you need to look pulled together but don’t have time for a full shadow look.

MAC Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul – A truly universal product MAC describes Warm Soul as a mid tone beige with gold pearl. To me it is more of a dusty peachy pink. Either way it is fabulous on everyone. If you just own one blusher, this can be it. Warm Soul can be worn very sheer but built up for a more intense “BAM” blush look. I know some are worried about the “gold pearl” aspect of it but the pearl is more of a super fine golden micro glitter that gives a youthful glow without being over the top.

MAC Facial Cleansing Wipes $20.00-$29.00 – Like the MAC 217 Blending Brush I have tried to find alternatives to MAC’s Facial Cleansing Wipes and I just can’t. And trust me when I say I’ve tried a T-O-N of wipes! These wipes are refreshing. They clean very well without leaving a heavy residue/film. MAC’s Facial Wipes have a nice, crisp scent that does not linger on your face. These wipes will remove just about everything but the most stubborn water proof makeup.

Next time you are at a MAC counter/stand alone for looking the latest “Ri Ri Loves” collection, grab one or two of my picks. You will not be disappointed!
