Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe

Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe is a recent limited edition release to their Sephora Favorites. This boxed set is available in two shades: Light/Medium and Medium/Dark. The Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe is available at all Sephora locations (even those inside JCPenney) and retails for $40.00.

I have purchased many a Sephora Favorites set but none have come close to the value of the Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe. Five of the items included in this set are full sized. That’s right! Five full sized brow products! This kit contains everything you’ll need to get your perfect brow for $40.

There are some items in this set that I’ve used before. I’ve raved about Anastasia’s Brow Wiz for what seems like forever. I have not found any brow pencil that comes close to this one. It’s pigmented and creamy (always store the pencil upright with the product facing down). Anastasia’s Brow Gel is equally as fabulous and a long time fave of mine too. These two products alone are what drove me to buy the set.

I’ve used Benefit’s High Brow before and even though I no longer support the company thanks to their ridiculous Bon Qui Qui campaign. I will say that High Brow is a really good pencil highlighter. It’s natural looking, creamy and easy to apply. You can use it under your brow or anywhere else you want a natural highlight. It might come off as ashy on those of us with darker skin tones.

Top to Bottom: Kat Von D Tattoo Brow in Medium Brown, Smashbox Brow Tech Glossy Stick in Brunette, Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown and Benefit High Brow.

Top to Bottom: Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown, Smashbox Brow Tech Glossy Stick in Brunette, Kat Von D Tattoo Brow in Medium Brown and Benefit High Brow.

There are two items that are new to me in the Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe: Kat Von D Tattoo Brow and the Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick. A gloss stick for your brows?!?! I know! I had the same reaction. The truth is that there are those of us who have a natural sheen to their brows and using Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick in conjunction with your normal routine adds a “natural” look to your penciled in brow. This product is very easy to use and can be used in place of a brow wax to keep your brows in place. Smashbox Brow Tech Gloss Stick dries down and stays put. It is not necessarily water proof and will stay put as long as you don’t fiddle with your brows much.

The other new item for me in this set is the Kat Von D Tattoo Brow. I like to use this brow pen to create individual brow hairs. Especially where my brows begin. Kat Von D Tattoo Brow is very long wearing and water proof. Medium Brown can be used to lighten up the darker tone of the Brow Wiz in Dark Brown. This is the item I use the least in the kit. That doesn’t mean it’s not good, it’s just not an item I reach for often

Tweezers and a small mirror round out the Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe. While the kits only come in two shade selections I found the Medium/Dark set transitioned well from my lighter auburn summer shade to my nearly black tresses I have now. You can customize the set a bit more by using a brow powder that better compliments your current hair color.

If you’re a brow fanatic like I am, this is the Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe for you. At $40 you’re getting $100 worth of products. This is a beauty bargain from a store that rarely has them. I suggest grabbing Sephora Favorites Brow Raising Brow Wardrobe now before their VIB sale begins this month.

Fall 2015 Trends With Ulta Beauty

(Sponsored)

Calling all Chicagoans! Calling all Chicagoans! Did you know that we have a brand new Ulta on the Northside in Wicker Park? It’s nestled in a shopping plaza right off of Ashland. There’s a Dunkin Donuts in the same plaza. You can grab your pumpkin spiced whatever and stop in to check out what’s new and the hottest trends for Fall 2015.  The Wicker Park Ulta is located at 1300 N. Ashland Frnt J.

I was treated to a demonstration of some of Ulta’s Hottest Fall 2015 trends by the Wicker Park Ulta Prestige Manager Marshal Click.  On his model he demonstrated the Suede Eye, Cashmere Skin and Velvet lips using some of his favorite items from Smashbox, Too Faced, Lipstick Queen, Urban Decay and Stila.

Ulta Fall 2015 Makeup Wicker Park

Products used to recreate Ulta’s Fall 2015 Makeup Trends Upper Row L to R: Stila Convertible Color Cheek +LIp in Lillium, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water, Stila Palette in Spirit and Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara. Bottom Ro L to R: Lipstick Queen Cupid’s Bow in Apollo, Urban Decay 24/7 Lipliner in Blackmail and Urban Decay Primer Potion.

To create the Suede Eye Marshal started by prepping the eye with Urban Decay’s Primer Potion. The Suede Eye look was created using the Stila’s Eyes Are the Windows Palette – Spirit. He started of by Using the shade Puppy all over the lid. To create the sueding effect on the lid he used Go Lightly. For the brow highlight he used Wheat (a FAVE of mine from Stila). To spice up the look he went in with Pigalle (a burgundy shade) on the lid and crease to create what I like to call a spicy smoky.

The recreate the Cashmere Skin look he used Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water to even out his model’s complexion. To add some dimension he lightly contoured her face using Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. The blush he used was Stila’s Convertible Color Cheek + Lip in Lillium, a pretty shade of nude pink that also can double as your lip color.

The dark wine Vekvet Lip look is hands down my favorite of the season. Marshal created this look using the Urban Decay 24/7 Lip Liner in Blackmail to line her lips and to slightly fill them in. He then placed Lipstick Queen Cupid’s Bow in Apollo on the center of her lip and blending the colors together creating a beautiful multidimensional velvet lip.

It always makes me happy to meet others who are as passionate about makeup as I am. Marshal and his staff are all very knowledgable and eager to assist their customers with all their beauty needs. They have converted this longtime South Side gal to make the quick trek up north for all her Ulta Beauty needs!

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water Review

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is a new release to their permanent line of products. There are a total of eight shades currently available.  Each jar contains 1 fl. oz  and retails for $42.00. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water can be found at Smashbox retailers nationwide.

What the brand says:

“What it is:
A sheer-to-medium BB water with a liquid-silk texture that delivers multiple benefits in just one drop.

What it is formulated to do:
– Oil-free formulation with built-in primer water technology that creates a liquid silk-consistency to glide easily onto your face and moves with the skin
– Features SPF 30 sun protection
– Comes in eight shades

This multitasking BB water with SPF 30 is an ultra-hydrating and oil-free formula that creates a sheer, radiant finish that lasts all day. It delivers a demi-matte complexion that’s never flat, creating a natural-looking canvas, and it minimizes the look of fine lines, pores, and blemishes. This unique BB water allows you to build coverage and does not cause any drying, cracking, or caking during wear.”

My take on Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is this: it’s pretty damn good! Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is one of the new “serum type” foundations. The formula is very thin and has a slightly water-like feel to it. You absolutely have to apply this product with your fingers. Initial application yields a beautiful, natural sheer to light coverage finish that catches the light in all the right places. You can build coverage and cover minor imperfections by layering the product.

smashbox camera ready bb water swatch

The formula of Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is fabulous! It didn’t dry my skin out and actually wore very well even on the drier patches of my skin. My skin felt hydrated through out the day. On its own Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water wears for about 6-8 hours before you’ll notice some slight wear. You can extend wear time buy using this product with a primer and setting with a powder. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water works very well with their Photo Filter Powder Foundation.

While I find the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water fabulous, there are some downsides to it. At $42 for 1 fl. oz it is quite expensive. I also don’t like that the formula does not play well with brushes and sponges. I tried a few application options (other than fingers) and the results all pretty much stunk. If you’re not a fan of using your fingers to apply your base, Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is not for you.

If you’re in the market for a product that will enhance your own skin, yielding a beautiful, natural finish that looks like your skin? Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water is for you! Have you tried this product yet? Are you a fan of serum foundations? Let me know in the comments below.

Heeeeeey! Long time no post right? I took an over extended break for personal reasons. Happy to report that I should be back and ready to lend my voice to all things beauty. It’s been an odd month weather wise here in Chicago because we haven’t really begun to transition to the fall yet. We actually still have some very summer like weather here so I haven’t had to break out my usual “transition to fall” beauty goodies, had a pumpkin spiced anything or put my crock pot stew recipes to the test yet. With our unusual weather I have found that my September 2015 Favorites really reflect what I have been using for most of the summer.

ebblog sept 2015 makeup faves

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Twice Baked – I’ve always been advocate of using “color” (meaning not black!) eyeliner. While Urban Decay’s line of pencil eyeliners boasts an impressive array of shades, it’s Twice Baked that’s been my jam! Twice Baked is the perfect shade of dark brown with just a hint of shimmer and slightly coppery micro glitter. I reeeeeeally wish this wasn’t a limited edition item that is no longer available but there are plenty of brown liners on the market at all price points.

Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Saddle – An oldie but goodie! Saddle is my everything: brows, liner, crease, sheer wash of smokey color on my eyes. It’s so important to have a good selection of “basic” shadows that can be used in a variety of ways. Saddle is just my makeup “bae”. I can’t live without it and it’s lasted me FOREVER.

INGLOT YSM Cream Foundation – When I came back from Mexico last month I had actually tanned quite a bit and I found myself needing a foundation that was just a little bit darker. Thankfully I had makeup ESP and brought this little powerhouse with me to Mexico. INGLOT’s YSM Cream Foundation is amazing! The coverage on it’s own is medium to full but what I have been doing with it is mixing it with other products to sheer it out some since I do not need that kind of coverage everyday. YSM wears for hours, looks like skin and just photographs beautifully! It’s also not as expensive as some of it’s higher end cousins.

MAC Cinderella Stroke of Midnight Palette – A MAC Palette full of best selling neutrals and a blackened purple? Toss in really cute packaging and how could this not be a favorite? I’m admittedly not one who buys into the MAC Limited Edition collections that are released weekly (or it seems that way!) but I actually stayed up all night to order this palette because I loved everything about the Stroke of Midnight palette. All of the shades in this palette are perfect: blend well, pigmented and long lasting. . If you missed out on the palette five of the six shades are permanent. Stroke of Midnight is the lone limited edition shade.

Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation – I use Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation on the days when I want to head out the door and I only have 5 minutes to get my face together OR to set my foundation/concealer. This powder when applied alone with a powder brush is enough to really just pull my face together. Over a foundation and concealer it works to set everything in place and to slightly color correct. Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation also adjusted to my recently tanned skin very well. For all my dry skinned ladies out there, this powder does NOT cling to your dry patches. There are a variety of ways to use the Smashbox Photo Filter Creamy Powder Foundation (it comes with a double sided sponge, can be used wet or dry, etc) and several marketing claims I have yet to test so I may do a full review on this product in the future.

Tweetermen Slant Tweezers – Who doesn’t love a hot pink tweezer? Whenever I get asked: What is one beauty routine you do daily? My answer is ALWAYS: brows! Brows can seriously make or break your ENTIRE face. Yes, your brows are THAT serious! To keep your brows in tip top shape I recommend a great pair of tweezers and you can never go wrong with Tweezerman. Free sharpening for life? Yes please! I actually have two pairs so when I do send them away to get sharpened, I always have a spare at home with me.

ebblog sept 2015 hair favorites

Redken Color Extend Magentics Shampoo – I have a love/hate relationship with sulfate free shampoos. I love that they don’t dry my fragile tresses out but I hate that my hair never feels or looks clean after using them. That all changed this past summer when I purchased Redken’s Color Extend Magnetics Shampoo. This sulfate free, color safe shampoo just really, really works! It cleanses my hair, gives my hair body and doesn’t dry my hair out. I would use this shampoo even if I wasn’t coloring my hair that’s how good it is.

Simon & Tom Moroccan Treatment – I don’t know why but my hair cannot handle straight up oil of any kind. Believe me, I have tried them all. It’s almost like my hair needs that dose of silicone to make a difference and I am fine with that. Enter Simon & Tom Moroccan treatment which has seriously saved my ends as of late. Now, I do not use this serum all over my hair. I apply this serum on the ends of my hair before I go to sleep and when I get up in the morning my hair just looks and feel better.

Those were my favorite makeup and hair products for September 2015. What were you enjoying this month and made your September 2015 Favorites? let me know in the comments section below.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

ebblog smashbox photo finish primer water main

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water is a new permanent addition to Smashbox’s line. It contains 3.9 fl. oz. and retails for for $32.00. You can find Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water at Smashbox retailers nation wide and online. I want to say that this is a first for Smashbox as I don’t remember having them a spray type primer/finishing product in there is line. Here is what Smashbox claims their Photo Finish Primer Water does:

What it is:
A makeup primer spray that hydrates and revitalizes skin.

What it does:
Get the benefits of priming, hydration, and sheer radiance with this all-in-one Photo Finish Primer Water. Free of silicone, alcohol, and oil, it’s packed with revitalizing electrolytes that work to reawaken skin and restore moisture. This enriched water instantly absorbs into skin for lasting hydration, leaving skin looking refreshed and ultrasoft while it locks in makeup.

What else you need to know:
Back in 2000, Smashbox founder and photographer Davis Factor developed our iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer to help makeup look better and last longer on shoots. Fast forward 15 years and a new icon is born: Photo Finish Primer Water. It’s everything you love about the original primer in the lightest, purest, and most refreshing form imaginable. From the silky-smooth texture of the original, to the super-fine mist of this new water, this primer is perfect for all skin types.

“I always used to mist models’ skin with plain water as the first step in any application, but now I don’t know how I lived without this primer. It’s a triple threat. I use it as a super sheer primer before makeup, as a setting spray to help keep makeup in place, and as a misting spray throughout the day to refresh skin. It’s like a spa in a bottle!”—Lori Taylor Davis, Global Pro Lead Artist

Makeup setting sprays are either a must or a bust depending on who you ask. I swear by them and others don’t. It’s a personal choice that really hinges on what foundation/ABCDEFG cream/tinted moisturizer you are wearing and the overall condition of your skin. The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water is the latest entry into the relatively new beauty spray market from a higher end brand. This spray can be used before application as a primer, to set after makeup application and throughout the day to refresh your skin. I’ve had my Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water for a little over a month now and I am completely smitten with it. I have found this spray as an effective step in priming my skin, setting my makeup and refreshing as needed throughout the day. This is a light misting spray that you won’t feel on your face once it dries. The dry time on it is pretty fast which shocked me since it has no alcohol in it. Despite it’s claims as a primer, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water really shines as a setting/refreshing spray. It can take you from dry/cakey to glowing/refreshed in an instant. Photo Finish Primer Water smells REALLY good too! I mist my face even if I am not wearing makeup just to get some of the benefits of using the spray and for the calming effect the scent of this spray has on me.

apena smashbox photo finish primer water

You can see how much I have used in just over a month.

If I had one gripe it would be the price. At $32 a pop this can be pricey, especially if you use it daily like I do. Making this a complete luxury purchase for me. While it is nice to have, it’s not necessarily what I would call a beauty must have for everyone. Have you tried the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water? Are you a fan of beauty sprays in general?
