Date Night! After a ridiculously busy day your significant other has asked you out on an impromptu date. “See you in thirty,’ they say. Date night is here! You have JUST 30 minutes to get ready and you don’t want to keep him or her waiting!  Your girl has a quick tutorial to get you looking and feeling your best in 30 minutes or less!

If you’re life is anything like mine, you are probably splitting your day between work, household chores and the kids (or dogs in my case!). As excited as we are for date night we can feel tired and need a boost. “Let Your Healthy Out” with a delicious dose of Emergen-C! My personal favorite flavor is Cranberry Pomegranate. This fizzy drink is loaded with Vitamin C to provide a boost that you probably need at this point. Plus, it’s delicious. Sip your emergency and pull out your date night appropriate outfit. My go to just happens to be

Now that we have our energy up, it’s time to worry about hair and make up! Keep your makeup simple. Before you start any makeup, prep your lips and get them kiss worthy with your favorite lipbalm. My go to is ChapStick Total Hydration!  Its advanced nourishing formula with argan oil and avocado butter and rosehip oils gets even my dragon scale lips kiss worthy. Apply a light layer to your lips. Too much lip balm can actually make chapped lips worth.

Simple date night makeup highlights your natural features. Start with a clean, well moisturized  face. Use your favorite concealer and just touch up the areas that are problematic for you. Follow up with a light dusting of powder to set the foundation. I like to use a tinted powder that mimics the natural look of skin that way I don’t have to worry about spending time blending a liquid/cream foundation. I finish of my skin with a blush that gives me that naturally flushed look.

To complete my look I fill in my brows, add a light wash of slightly shimmery neutral shadow to my lids, smudge in a bit of smoky purple pencil liner (or the color of your choice) and some mascara. I tend to not go for a red, burgundy or deep vampy lips for date night. I usually just amp up my natural lip color. Instead of slathering my lips with a gloss, I apply a light layer of my ChapStick Total Hydration using my fingers to give me a slightly pouty glow.

Getting your hair ready can be tricky. My tip is to go for a quick messy bun or a sleek ponytail. Both hairstyles are easy to do and take almost no time. However, if you’re like me and prefer to wear your hair down, I create a bouncy wave using velcro rollers, my hair dryer and a little hairspray..

I wrap my entire head in velcro rollers of various sizes. This does not have to be exact because we are going to heat set the wave using your hair dryer on high. Blast your hair for two minutes making sure you’re getting all of the rollers nice and warm. Let hair cool completely. You can do this hair style before your makeup and after getting dressed. Giving your hair ample time to cool. Once your hair is cool carefully remove the hair rollers and fluff with your fingers. Set your look with a light hold hairspray. You can also do this hair style before your makeup and after getting dressed. Giving your hair ample time to cool.

Put on your favorite frock and voila: Date night ready! I toss my ChapStick Total Hydration, a powder compact and my lipstick into a little bag. I always make sure that I am carrying my pain medication of choice: Advil. The original round tablets providing safe, effective pain relief for over 25 years. I carry a little vial of Advil because you never know when you’re going to need it and it is better to be safe than sorry.

You can find all three of these items at your local Walmart. The Advil travel tubes are usually located at the checkout lanes. ChapStick and EmergenC are available in the Pharmaceutical section. You can find the ChapStick on specially marked end caps. EmergenC can be found in the Supplement Aisle and on special end cap displays.

This look didn’t cost me big bucks. I grabbed most of these items from my local Walmart. What are your go to looks for date night? Do you have a favorite drugstore product that is essential for your date night look? Let me know in the comments below.

Girl’s Night Out with black|Up Cosmetics

((Press Samples – This post brought to you by black|Up and The Beauty Council))

I was recently invited to a Painting Party and I was so excited about that I almost wet my pants. Well, that has more to do with the twins literally playing kickball with my bladder but I digress. I was so excited because I was going out to a non family/non date night function. Waa-hoo! I can wear my glittery shadows, rock my red lipstick without any off comment about not being kissable, let my hair down (literally!). and wear my cool, patterned leggings without the in-law side eye! I was so besides myself that I didn’t even know where to start and then I saw it… I had a rather large collection of black|Up cosmetics goodies to play with. I broke out my new goodies and whipped up a fun look for that night out when it’s just about looking good for you. This look is SO beyond easy and customizable to your taste. Do as much or as little as you want but remember to have fun with it!

From L to R: Ombres 5 Couleurs PAL02, Blush 09, Poudre Sublime 01, Rouge a Levres M15 and 33, Le Khol Smoky Wateproof KS01 and KS08

Step 1 – We’re going to be using the true gold glitter from the black|Up Ombres 5 Couleurs in PAL02 so I suggest starting with the eyes first and then finish your base. Prime your eyes and then lay down a a thin layer of your concealer to even out your skin tone.  Apply a thick line of Le Kohl Smoky Waterproof Pencil in KS08 on your upper lash line and smoke it out. You can go as far in with this line as you want.

Step 2 – You’re going to take matte brown in the black|Up Ombres 5 Couleurs and define your outer “V” to your liking.  The true gold glitter shadow in this palette insane but prone to fallout so you’re going to need a glitter glue in order to make sure this shadow stays in place. Apply a light layer of your glitter glue to your lid and then with your finger apply the gold glitter shadow on top of it. Intensify your liner by lining your eyes with Le Kohl Smoky Waterproof Pencil in KS01 and slightly smudging the edges.

Step 3 – Clean up any fall out and apply your foundation/concealer as you normally would. Now is also a good time to fill in your brows.

Step 4 – Apply Le Kohl Smoky Waterproof Pencil in KS01 on your waterline and then smudge Le Kohl Smoky Waterproof Pencil in KS08 on your lower lash line. Apply mascara and for some extra drama false lashes!

Step 5 – Contour, highlight and blush to your liking. I used Poudre Sublime 01 to slightly contour my face. I defined my cheek bones and nose. I warmed up my skin using Poudre Sublime on the perimeter of my face. With a light hand I applied Blush 09 onto cheek bones.

Step 6 – I went with red for my lip. The glitter on the eyes is subtle enough that you can pair it with a bold lip. You could also do a pinky nude or a brown. Playing with lip colors can be fun and a great way to create your own color. For this look I mixed black|Up Rouge a Levres in M15 and 33 to get the right shade of red for my lips. To intensify the look and to give me a crisp clean shape I lined my lips with a fine lip brush and black|Up Rouge a Levres 33.

I really wish the glittery gold shadow photographed better as it is STUNNING in real life. The way  it catches the light just makes my eyes sparkle. I loved my night out with the girls. Yeah, I felt funny being a pregnant lady in a bar BUT the painting was fun and I got a ton of compliments on my look. The eyes and the lips were co-stars that night thanks to black|Up Cosmetics. If you want to score some of the goodies I used in the tutorial black|Up is now offering 20% from now until February 28th, 2015 (My birthday!!!). Just use code LOVE15 at checkout. Getting New Years Eve Ready with Mirabella

(Purchased by Me/Press Samples)

NYE Mirabella Everyday Beauty Blog

Well the BIG day (Christmas for me!) has come and gone and while I am cleaning up gift wrap, packing left overs I am daydreaming about letting off some holiday steam on New Years Eve. Of course I won’t be partying hard BUT that doesn’t mean I can’t look good holding my virgin Pina Colada/sparkling grape juice. One of my recent favorite beauty products is from a company called Mirabella and their new Faerie Collection: Myth Visionary Long Wear Eyeshadow. This spongy, glittery, versatile deep copper shadow is just stunning with any eye color that I was actually compelled to create an entire New Years Eve look around it. The best part? I used just four products to create this eye look.

mirabella faerie NYE ebblogr

Step 1 – The Eyes: When ever I work with anything that is glitter heavy I do my eyes first then finish up my face so I can clean up any possible fall out. I applied a light layer of eyeshadow primer (a tacky primer works best for this look!) and gave it a few seconds to set. Next I took a liner brush and created a line on my upper and lower lash line using  Myth Visionary Long Wear Eyeshadow.  The line starts out thick and then gets thinner as you get closer to the inner corner of your eye. Remember you’re going for a thick, dramatic line here.. Next, I used a glittery light pale pink shadow (Urban Decay Dusk from their Naked 3 palette) and placed it on my lid. I went back to Myth Visionary Long Wear Eyeshadow and intensified my crease and outer “V”, packing it on to get my desired color intensity( Tip: Use a small definer shadow brush). Now that all your color is in place you are going to go over your look with a blending brush to diffuse any harsh lines and to really smoke out the edges. My skin is light enough that I was able to use Mirabella’s Swirling Pearl Brilliant as a highlight shade/blending color to finish off the shadows. I applied a black kohl liner to my waterline, some mascara and done!

Step 2 – The Face: The eyes are the star here so you want to keep your face makeup fairly light. My choice was a light layer of liquid foundation, some cream concealer, a light rosy pink blush and bronzer to warm up my complexion. I kept my brows as natural as possible. Once my face was set I went in with Mirabella’s Swirling Pearl Brilliant to highlight my high points on my face: forehead, Cupid’s Bow and the bridge of my nose.

Step 3 – The Lips: I used one of my favorite tricks on my lips to get the perfect long-wearing nude: applied a cream concealer on my conditioned lips to tone my natural lip color. In order to avoid looking like a corpse I applied Mirabella’s Gossamer Color Luxe Lip Gloss to bring in some sheen and a bit of pale pink.

Optional – You can add some dramatic lashes to really give your lashes some oomph. Browns are a very hot lip shade  now and would be a perfect, trendy addition to you look. More glitter? Sure why not pack on some glitter glue and go to town with pink/copper toned glitters.

Check out what some of my fellow Beauty Council members came up with for New Years Eve below. What are your plans for New Years Eve?

The Beauty Council VMA Looks: Kendall Jenner

beauty council everyday beauty blog

Hola! This is my first ever Beauty Council post. “What the heck is a Beauty Council”  you say? Well, the Beauty Council is a curated, diverse collection of beauty, fashion and lifestyle bloggers that will be publishing bi-monthly articles on all things beauty. You can Our first collective challenge was to select a celebrity who attended the 2014 VMAs and recreate their look.

I had quite a few VMA looks to choose from but I chose Kendall Jenner. She is having her moment right now and as loathe as I am to admit it I actually really like her style and I think Kendall is absolutely gorgeous. Her makeup look was simple but it was FLAWLESS which can be harder to recreate at home with consumer products. I’m going to share with you what I used and the key steps I took to recreate her look on myself.

Skin Care: It is ESSENTIAL when going for flawless, smooth and radiant skin that your skin care be top notch. Kendall’s skin appeared flawless and she had more than makeup to thank for that. In addition to my usual routine I added a skin care treat prior to applying my makeup: Glam Glow. I applied the mask as directed and then waited a half hour after I rinsed it off prior to applying my foundation.

Face: Kendall is sporting a very minimal look so it is extremely important to pick a foundation that has great coverage and looks like skin. I applied a layer of my trusty Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation stick and smoothed that out with my fingers and set it with my Serenity+Scott Powder Foundation. I concealed my dark circles, highlighted lightly, bronzed my skin and applied a natural peachy pink blush. To avoid caking/powdery look I misted my face with Make Up Forever’s Mist+Set and then pressed it into the skin with my hands.

Eyes/Brows: Kendall’s brows are EVERYTHING to me! Dark, plush but not caterpillar/sharpie like at all. Now I normally wear my brows like this just in a different shape that suits my face. Starting with an eyebrow pencil I pencil in the basic shape and then I draw in hairs sing light strokes in the direction that my brows grow. I follow up with a powder shadow just to darken the brows up.

Kendall’s actual eye look is refreshingly simple! To get a look similar to hers you’ll need a nude eyeshadow that you will place on your entire lid, on the inner corner you’re going to want to pop a matte shade that is 2-3 shades lighter than your skin tone. I followed up with a shimmer taupe in my outer “V” and brought that shadow under my lower lash line. Black pencil liner is a must to create that pretty doe eyed look that Kendall is sporting. You are going to concentrate on the outer third of your eye, creating a thick line that goes thin and into the inner third of both your upper and lower lash lines. Before this liner sets you are going to slightly smudge it giving your liner a smokey look. You can opt for natural/wispy demi lashes but I went with my new fave: Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara!

Lips: Her artist went with a very, very nude with a hint of pink. You can achieve this look in a number of ways. I chose to line my lips with MAC’s and followed up with their Creme D’Nude which I love. You can use also use a creamy, hydrating concealer topped with a natural sheer gloss. The shade will vary depending on your skin tone. Whatever you decide I suggest exfoliating your lips and applying a sheer layer of lip balm before you start to do your makeup to guarantee you will have soft lips.
