Milani Power Lip

milani power lip duo

Milani Power Lip Lasting & Moisturizing Gloss Stain are a new permanent product to Miani’s line of lip products. There are a total of eight shades available: Red Control, Macaroon, Strawberry Sugar, Mango Tango, Creamy Café, Pink Lemonade, Raspberry Tart and Cabaret Blend.  Each Power Lip contains .09 OZ and retails for $6.49. For the purpose of this review I chose Creamy Café and Strawberry Sugar.

From the Milani site:

Power Lip Lasting & Moisturizing Gloss Stain combines the shine of a gloss with the long wear of a stain. When first applied it goes on like a high-shine gloss, and then wears to a rich stain that lasts. Formula cushions lips and provides a non-drying, comfortable wear.  Get the power of a bold lip in just one click! Paraben-free.

Now I will start with the positives of the two shades I own from Milani’s Power Lip line. They really do last an extremely long time when wore correctly. And for anything to last on my lips for eight plus hours that says a lot. Strawberry Sugar is INSANELY pigmented and my favorite of the two. It is the perfect shade of Barbie pink. As light as the shade is, Strawberry Sugar covers my highly pigmented lips very well and wore for a good eight hours. It is a very pretty shade of pink that I love and I am willing to work with. Creamy Café is also INSANELY pigmented covering my natural lips very well. Both shades did not bleed on me and I did not need to use a lip liner with either.

Top to Bottom: Strawberry Sugar and Creamy Café

Unfortunately Milani Power Lips in Strawberry Sugar and Creamy Café did not live up to some of the claims Milani made. I was very aware of the fact that I was wearing these on my lips the second I put these on. They were very sticky to the touch and got really tight really quickly. Both shades of Power Lips were a tad uncomfortable to wear. Despite the claims of “non drying” both shades sucked all of the moisture out of my lips to the point where they literally were pealing off my lips. And this is AFTER exfoliating and moisturizing. I just want to note that this is also after two consecutive days of wear. When I wore them on the first day they did not peel off my lips.  Also, Creamy Café wears on the orange side and less on the nude side making the shade not really a fave of mine. The packaging is also a bit clumsy for proper distribution of the product. If you are not careful it is really easy to over apply the product as it tends to ooze out fairly quickly after twisting. I applied it using a lip brush and a metal mixing palette.

I really do not recommend these to any of my dry lipped sisters. If you don’t suffer from dry lips and you want to try Milani Power Lips I recommend a very good moisturizer/exfoliate combo before application.  Despite the problems I am in love with the color payoff I get from Strawberry Sugar and I will use it for special occasions. Creamy Café unfortunately will go in my give away pile. Have you tried the Milani Power Lips yet? If so, did you have a different experience?

Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Palette

ebblog too faced summer 2014 Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Bronzer Collection is a new, limited edition bronzer palette. The Bonjour Soleil palette is part of Too Faced’s Summer 2014 collection, which is now available at Too Faced retailers nationwide. The palette contains three bronzers with a total weight of .39 OZ and a mini flatbuki brush. The Too Faced Bonjour Soleil Palette retails for $44.00.   too gaced ebblog bonjour soleil   This week I have covered most (there is a Limited Edition set for Sephora) of Too Faced’s Summer 2014  line. The love keeps flowing today with my review of their Bonjour Soleil Palette. This palette contains their famous Chocolate Soleil bronzer (.14 OZ), Sun Bunny (.14 OZ) and Snow Bunny (..11 OZ). Each of these three shades are available on their own in a .35 OZ sizes that retail for $30.00 each. My thought on each shade are below: Chocolate Soleil – Is medium deep chocolate, completely matte bronzer that does not go orange or muddy on my skin. It smells DELISCIOUS because Chocolate Soleil is infused with cocoa which helps to soothe skin and combat redness. It is highly pigmented, soft and easy to blend. A little of this product goes along way, so applying with a light hand is a must to avoid looking like Snooki. This is a really great shade to contour with. Sun Bunny – Is a duo tone powder bronzer that consists of a lighter pinkish brown shade and a darker almost terracotta shade. Each side of this bronzer is slightly shimmery. When used together Sun Bunny is the perfect shade to add a sun lit glow to your face. You can contour with this bronzer but I generally recommend a matte bronzer/foundation for contouring purposes. This is the most universal of the three shades included in the Bonjour Soleil Palette. Sun Bunny is lighter and pinker than Chocolate Soleil. Snow Bunny – This is more of a highlighter then a true bronzer. It is composed of four shades that can be swirled together to give an all over, warm glow. OR you can use the individual shades as eye shadows like I did in the look below. Snow Bunny is slightly shimmery but that adds to the ethereal glow  this product provides. Sun Bunny also makes a great blush.

The packaging on the Bonjour Soleil is very similar to their A La Mode Palette. A light weight metal with a magnetic closure. I just adore the look of the packaging. The inside of the palette contains a sizeable mirror, perfect for doing your makeup on the go. The versatility of the Bonjour Soleil Palette along with the size makes it a perfect travel partner.

My one complaint is that I am not sure how truly universal this palette is. If your light to medium in the skin shade range then this will work for you but if you’re super fair/light or a dark skin shade this might be too much or not enough pigment for you.

In the photos of my face you can see how unbelievably potent the Too Faced Bonjour Soleil palette is. Right now I am still a little pale to go “all out” bronze like I did above. My goal was to show you how insanely pigmented this product is. And with that stated it’s a slight difference but me being the perfectionist I am, noticed it right away in photos.  My recommendation is that is you decide to go “all out” and you are still wearing your winter pale skin,  then run the bronzer down your neck, décolletage and you shoulders/arms if you’re going sleeveless like I did.

I have been beyond impressed with Too Faced’s entire Summer 2014 line.  If you are in the market for the perfect summer palette than I highly recommend Too Faced’s Bonjour Soleil palette. Too Faced Bonjour Soleil is so much more than JUST a bronzer palette. Run out and snatch this up because it is limited edition and once Bonjour Soleil is gone, it’s gone! Ashley

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick

too faced melted ebblog summer 2014

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks are new to their line for Summer 2104. These are available in seven shades, six of them are general release and there is one Sephora exclusive shade. The six general release shades are: Melted Violet, Melted Fuschia, Melted Ruby, Melted Coral, Melted Peony and Melted Nude. There was a Sephora VIB release called Melted Candy but it is gone from the Sephora site. I would inquire at your local Sephora to check stock status. Each Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick contains .4 oz and retails for $21.00.  These are available at Too Faced retailers nationwide. For the purpose of this review I chose Melted Peony and Melted Nude.

The beauty hype machine is VERY real and at times sometimes that hype is warranted. Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick is receiving a ton of hype right now and you know what? All that hype is very WELL deserved! These are AHMAZING, a unique combination of long wearing lipstick and lipgloss. The Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks are unique in the world of “long wear” lip color as these do not dry out my lips and then peel off like skin. The formula is very opaque yet lightweight. I don’t feel like I’ve smeared butter across my lips when I am wearing these.

L to R: melted Poeny and Melted Nude

The shades Melted Peony and Melted nude wore well for six hours on me through eating and drinking and faded to a stain that lasted an additional two hours. They do lose their shine around hour five but they don’t dry out my lips as time goes on. No tightness, peeling, etc. That wear time for “lighter” shades is exceptional.  Normally I have to conceal my natural lip color by either lining my lips in a nude shade or by using an actual concealer because I have insanely naturally pigmented lips that will bleed through most lighter colors. But when using Melted Nude and Melted Peony I didn’t need to do that and the color stayed put. They stayed where I put them so no bleeding or pooling on the sides of the mouth.

I really love the packaging as well. It is very girly and pretty squeeze tube with matte gold caps and gold lettering. The tip of the Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks is very unique. It’s a sponge tip applicator with a precise tip that allows for easy application but it also absorbs excess product to avoid gross over application on the lips… You know when you talk and it looks like spider webs of gloss when you open your mouth. Ugh… So gross!

Some of my fellow blogging friends have also reviewed the other shades in the Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick line. I’ll link to them below:

Phyrra – Beauty for the Bold

As with ANY long wearing product I suggest a great balm before application and if your prone to naturally scaly lips then a really good lip exfoliant is always recommended no matter what product you use. The Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks are the real deal folks! Treat yourself to a great lippie that will NOT let you down!

Too Faced A La Mode Eyes Palette

ebblog toofaced

Too Faced A la Mode Palette is part of their Summer 2014 collection. The A La Mode Palette consists of 9 eye shadows. Three eye shadows with a combined weight of .21 OZ and six with a combined weight of .18 OZ for a combined product weight of .39 OZ. This palette retails for $36.00 and it is available at Too Faced retailers nationwide. The Too Faced A La Mode palette is limited edition last I checked.

Summer sizzles this year with Too Faced’s newest nine shadow palette. Now I LOVED Too Faced’s Pretty Rebel and their Winter 2013 Holiday Palette so I was hoping that they would continue the love train. And they have, well sort of. My initial thought when I first saw the palette is that it reminded me of their Pretty Rebel palette, and while there are some similarities, they are both different.  The combination of colors range from light gold to hot pink. The A La Mode Palette skews VERY warm so neutral to warm toned beauties will love it. If you lean neutral to cool like me, it can be a challenge to work with BUT it still looks great on.

too faced a la mode side by side

There are no matte shades in this palette, all nine shades range from satins to shimmers. Most of the shades in the A La Mode palette performed exceptionally. The notable exception is the glittery shade St. Tropez which suffers in the pigment department and it can be fallout prone if not used correctly. I do find it pretty over a sticky base as a glittery overlay. The other eight shades wore for 4-6 hours without creasing and no primer. With primer I was able to go 12+ hours with little to no sign of fading. The photos taken of me wearing these shadows is at the 12 hour mark with Urban Decay’s classic eye shadow primer.

Notable shades are: De La Mer – a shimmery deep navy blue, Cannes – coppery shimmer, Soleil – A unique red based brown shimmer and Cote d’Azur – a lovely taupe shimmer. The packaging on the A La Mode palette is a welcome change from their older nine shade palettes. Gone is the old cardboard packaging. It has been replaced with a lightweight metal case with a magnetic closure. The packaging is compact and sturdy enough for travel.

Now I do have some issues with the A La Mode Palette. The first would be the omission of at least one matte shade. Thankfully there are satins in the palette to compensate but a nice neutral matte would help round out the shade selection. I also don’t care for the “How-To” glamour guide. “3 Steps, 3 Looks, 3 Minutes” = unblended mess. I don’t like half ass guides and unfortunetly Too Faced is notorious for them.

Other than those gripes I really enjoy the A La Mode Palette. Is it as great as their previous palettes? No, I still prefer their last two eye shadow palettes but the A La Mode Palette is great palette to express your inner glam goddess with this summer, especially if you don’t own anything similar.

What’s In My Bag Spring 2014

(This post features an item that was gifted to me. All opinions expressed are my own. I have received zero compensation for this post.)

In my almost four years of blogging I don’t think I have ever done a “What’s In My Bag” post. I’ve really started to get into purses as of late. I am REALLY fighting the urge to get into designer bags. I think the boyfriend would kill me if I spent $500-$3,500 on a purse… Not going to lie though there is a Rebecca Minkoff bag I am lusting over that I might just snatch up if I can find it at Nordtsrom Rack or at a really good discount elsewhere.

My current purse is a JustFab creation! The Just Fab Globetrotter in Navy. Navy is quickly becoming a staple color in my wardrobe. It’s dark enough of a color to slim but still bright enough to not make me look completely pale. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy a good black piece but I have been all over navy lately. My JustFab Globetrotter is one of the best purses I have ever owned. It’s large enough to hold my belongings but not so large that it is too heavy/cumbersome for me to carry. I get loads of compliments on this purse. Between the quilting, the color and the beautiful hardware this bag is a showstopper. I love that it has many different zippered compartments for me to store valuables. I can also choose between a shoulder strap or carry it by the handles. The Just Fab Globetrotter is my official Spring 2014 purse!

Now onto the contents. I don’t carry a ton of stuff with me on a daily basis. Just a few basics, etc.

My Navy, tan and purple GUESS wallet – I bought this after Christmas at Macys. I love this wallet becauase it is so unique. The fact that it matches my bag is just a plus!

MAC Turquatic Rollerball – Perfect for the busy gal on the go, this is my current signature scents. I rotate my fragrances monthly.

NEST Midnight Fleur Hand Cream – I got this as a last minute splurge from Sephora and I am definitely going to buy this in a bigger size if it’s available. I love the scent of Midnight Fleur and the formula of this lotion is great! It hydrates and soothes my hands even after the wacky weather we have been having.

Jack Black Lip Balm in Black Tea & Blackberry – I would say that EOS and Jack Black balms are neck and neck in terms of my Holy Grail lip balms. The Black Tea & Blackberry flavor is my fave. It’s lightly scented and flavored with no tint of course. This lip balm can hydrate my lips even through our wacky weather.

Business Cards/Receipts – What kind of beauty blogger/makeup artist would I be if I didn’t carry my business cards.

Hello Kitty IPhone 5 – My goddaughter bought me this Iphobe 5 Hello Kitty Chara Cover before my trip to LA. I am not a HUGE HK fan but I thought it was cute and I appreciate the thought behind her gift.

Urban Decay NAKED Ultra Nourishing Lip Gloss in Naked – I’ll be formally reviewing this soon. Quick and easy to pop on my lips even without a mirror!

Bath and Body Works Anti Bacterial Hand Sanitizer in Heirloom Pear- I really love the Fall at B&BW. I adore harvest scents and it really is the only time I buy soaps, candles, etc for my home.

Sunglasses – Kate Spade glasses tucked safely away in a stylish chevron case.

Lady Products – Can’t leave home without them. I store them in a small cosmetics pouch!

Pens, keys, earbuds and gum – As a makeup artist I ALWAYS have gum! No one wants me in their face if I have funky breath.

How about you? What kind of purse do you carry and what is in it? Also, check out my girl’s blog post on what’s in her bag:
