Officially Spring is here and our hair just survived another Winter. It’s time for a Spring hair makeover!!! Lets get our tresses ready for warmer days and outdoor activities. Just like Winter wreaks havoc on your skin, it usually has the same effect on your hair. Dry winter air can cause static, frizziness, dryness, brittleness, breakage and split ends. Now we all know the only sure fire way to rid yourself of split ends is t trim them off. Your other Winter related hair woes can sometimes be solved with the right combination of products and technique, resulting in sleek hair refreshed for the warmer Spring days ahead!

Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

SLS Free Shampoo – I swear by SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) free shampoos and to be honest I use them exclusively most of them time. While I find they don’t cleanse as well as shampoos that contain SLS, I do find that my hair responds better to the SLS free shampoos. My hair is much more shiny, manageable and voluminous without the drying effect that shampoos containing SLS  usually leaves.

Conditioning – This covers any type of conditioning you do in the shower: oils, store bought, DIY, etc. Most women should be using conditioner only on the lengths of your hair. Starting with the hair that is at ear level, add conditioner and work it to the ends. Hair closest to your scalp generally doesn’t need to be conditioned as your natural oils will usually take care of that. Conditioning your scalp will make your hair oily sooner which means more washing which leads me to my next tip.

Daily Washing – If you don’t need to do it, I highly suggest washing your hair every other day (or every third day like moi!). I will say this: showering and NOT washing your hair takes some time to get used to. Once your hair gets used to your new shampoo skipping routine (takes about a month!) you’ll find it’s softer, shinier and healthier than it ever was before. Invest in a dry shampoo can also help extend your shampoo free days.

Clarifying Shampoo – SLS free shampoos usually will not cut it once there is an ample amount of product build up so every two weeks you’re going to need to clarify your hair. You can do this a number of ways but the easiest for me is to use a clarifying shampoo. Just make sure your chosen way to clarify is color safe even if you don’t have colored hair. Why you ask? When a hair product is color safe that usually means it’s not as harsh as other products and it won’t overly strip your hair. I always follow up a clarifying shampoo with a hair masque to restore any moisture I might lose as clarifying no matter how gentle it is, can lead to drier hair.

Damp vs Wet – Making sure you that you are applying your products at the correct time greatly impacts their performance. Applying product to wet hair is like dumping it down the toilet. Before applying any leave in, styling products, etc. check the label to see if it reads: apply to damp hair or apply to wet. Damp hair is NOT towel dried hair out of the shower. When hair is damp it’s still has some moisture on it but it’s not completely dry yet.

Heat – I can’t avoid using heat on my hair. I have to blow dry my hair for it to look normal. A flat iron or curling rod are optional for me. ANYTIME I use heat, I use a heat protectant. I concentrate this product on my ends which is the most fragile part of the hair shaft. Want to go heat free? You can achieve very similar results to using heat tools without the damage when wet setting. Wet setting usually involves braiding or sleeping in soft foam rollers.

Hair Oils/Serums – These are optional products that when used correctly can bring your hair to the next level. Finding the right type of hair oil/serum really depends on what hair type you have. Fine/Thin Hair will need a drier, lighter oil/serum. Normal Hair Types will need a oil/serum that absorbs quickly and is not too heavy. Dry/Coarse/Thick hair will all need a heavier oil/serum packed with ingredients that meet their hair care needs. In all cases use the minimal amount of product needed because over saturating your hair with an oil/serum can actually make it dirtier leading to tangles and breakage.

Perfect Spring Skin $350 Giveaway

1497994_873112836060899_1953767345767448900_o

Spring has sprung!!! And who could not use a $350 giveaway to jumpstart your Spring/Summer shopping. My picks? Load up on maxi dresses, flowy blouses, sandals and of course makeup/skincare! My favorite Spring 2015 makeup trend is fresh, dewy skin. I’m not talking about the “Girl, you need to blot” dewy skin. I’m talking makeup that mimics “fresh, dewy skin” that can fool even a seasoned makeup artist. Here’s how:

1.) Start with clean, hydrated skin.

2.) Choose a foundation or a foundation substitute. The key is that it provides a light, semi matte (satin) finish. My picks are It Cosmetics CC Cream and Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. For light coverage use your fingers or a Beauty Blender sponge. For fuller coverage buff your foundation into your skin lightly with a flat kabuki brush, Pro Tip: To pump up the dewiness you can also add a tiny drop of a liquid brightener/illuminator.

3.) Conceal lightly if needed and then set if you have to.

4.) When setting don’t use a powder that provides more coverage or mattifies because that can take you to cake town and/or take you to completely matte. Instead opt for one that corrects imperfections like MAC’s Prep+Prime CC Colour Correcting Loose Powder in Adjust.

5.) To amp up the dewiness I opt for highlighters that contain little to n shimmer/glitter to highlight the high points (forehead, bridge of the nose, top of the cheeks and cupid’s bow) of my face. Pro Tip: You can use a matte eyeshadow in a shade that is one to two shades lighter instead of running out and buying a separate highlighter.

There you have it! Perfectly dewy Spring skin! Pair your fresh skin look with some fabulous pastels and your set for Easter! Hurry up and enter our $350 Giveaway. All of the details are in the Rafflecopter Widget below.

Too Faced Summer 2015 Summer #Selfie

too faced sugarpop ebblog

Yay!!! It’s finally getting warmer and you know what that means? Summer 2015 makeup collections are starting to arrive! The first Summer 2015 collection that has really caught my eye is from Too faced. Their Summer 2015 Collection is called #Selfie Summer. This collection features both limited edition items and permanent items. Lets take a quick peak at the #Selfie Summer collection.

The new Too faced Summer #Selfie Collection

I think I am most excited about the Sugarpop Eyeshadow Collection ($36.00). I am loving this collection of colors. Too Faced usually does eyeshadow palettes well. You all know that I love the Too Faced Melted line so I am also low key excited about the Melted Metals ($21.00 each . I’m normally not a metallic lippie girl, so my love/hate for these products will be based on how truly metallic these are. The other Summer #Selfie product I am pretty intrigued about has been available for a few weeks now and that is the Selfie Powders ($36.00). This trio of powders is supposed to mimic the effects of your favorite selfie filters. I am intrigued enough by the Selfie Powders and I wonder if this trio can be a dupe for the effects of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette.

Selfie Powders

Can this possibly be a dupe for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette?

What am I passing on? The Cocoa Contour Palette and all the bronzers. Personally, I’m not a fan of contour and heavy bronzers. But that’s just me! Also, I’m on the fence about the Natural Matte Eyeshadow Collection. While I love good matte shadows BUT do we need yet ANOTHER “Natural” or “Naked” palette? I say this now but watch the Natural Matte Palette end u being on a monthly favorite of mine in the future.

I’m trying so hard to resist these items until I can see these in store. You can score the Summer #Selfie collection on Too Faced’s website now. Have you jumped the gun and grabbed any of the Too Faced Summer 2015 Summer #Selfie collection yet?

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer

urban decay naked skin concealer

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is the newest concealer to hit their “Naked” line. Each tube of concealer contains .16 fl oz and retails for $28.00. The Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer (what a mouthful!) is available in 8 shades. Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is part of their Spring 2015 line and is permanent to their line. You can find the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer here or at your nearest Urban Decay retailer.

Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer comes packaged in a sturdy tube. The cap unscrews to reveal a flocked applicator. The formula of Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is very thin, ALMOST water like. The thinner consistency of the formula means that initial coverage can be quite sheer.  Obtaining complete coverage with this concealer does require some layering. The good news is that Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer layers fabulously without ever appearing cakey, settling into lines or cracking. It appears to mimic skin much in the same way that Urban Decays Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup does.

Urban Decay NAKED SKIN Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Light|Warm

Where this product shines is not in the coverage but the formula. There’s a certain soothing feeling to applying Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer on the skin that I can’t quite explain. It is apparently loaded with good for you skin care benefits including  sodium hyaluronate which helps your skin retain moisture. It is so lightweight that it feels like nothing is on your skin.

swatch urban decay naked skin concealer

It’s not all unicorns and glitter with Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer. If you have severe darkness/circles under your eyes I suggest picking up another concealer as this one no matter how you build it up will never really cover them. And what is with the ridiculously long name?!?!? How about a simple one like: Naked Skin Concealer.

Given its rather thin consistency, it’s SO easy to over blend/spread this concealer resulting in rather lackluster coverage. Here is how I apply  Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer.  I apply it directly to my skin using the flocked applicator to my skin. Using a fluffy domed shadow brush (MAC 217 – You need several of these in your life!) I gently blend the product out. Repeat if necessary. I avoid using my fingers because body heat does make this concealer even thinner, which in turn will make the coverage sheerer, requiring more product depending on the coverage you’re looking to achieve.

I will admit I was not a huge fan of Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer at first. It took me time to figure out how to apply this concealer. Now that I have the hand of it, I love it!  If you are looking for a lightweight, moisturizing (wha-what?!?!) concealer I suggest grabbing a tube of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer. Have you tried Urban Decay’s newest concealer? Let me know in the comments below.
